Why This Recipe Works for Weight Loss

One of my favorite ways to make healthy eating sustainable is by recreating comfort food with a few simple swaps instead of giving it up altogether.

Instead of relying on heavy cream, this recipe gets its creamy texture from blended cottage cheese, which adds a huge protein boost while keeping the sauce rich and velvety. Pair that with chicken breast, Barilla Protein+ pasta, and reduced-fat cheese, and you end up with a dinner that’s incredibly satisfying without feeling overly heavy.

When a meal is filling and packed with protein, it’s so much easier to stay full and avoid reaching for snacks later.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Barilla Protein+ Penne
  • Cooked shredded chicken breast
  • Bacon
  • Ranch seasoning
  • Blended cottage cheese
  • Fairlife fat-free milk
  • Low-sodium chicken broth
  • Reduced-fat cheddar cheese
  • Reduced-fat mozzarella cheese
  • Green onions

Ingredient Tips

Blend the Cottage Cheese

If you’ve never cooked with cottage cheese before, don’t worry! Blending it until completely smooth creates a creamy sauce without any noticeable curds.

My Favorite Protein Pasta

I almost always use Barilla Protein+ pasta. It’s my favorite because it cooks just like regular pasta, and even my daughter doesn’t notice a difference. That makes it an easy swap for adding extra protein to family dinners without sacrificing texture.

How to Make High Protein Chicken Bacon Ranch Pasta

  1. Add the cooked shredded chicken and dry protein pasta to a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Blend the cottage cheese, Fairlife milk, and ranch seasoning until smooth.
  3. Pour the sauce over the chicken and pasta.
  4. Add the chicken broth and cheddar cheese, then stir everything together.
  5. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 45 minutes, stirring once halfway through.
  6. Top with mozzarella and crispy bacon.
  7. Broil for a few minutes until the cheese is bubbly and lightly golden.
  8. Garnish with fresh green onions and serve.

Tips for Success

  • Blend the cottage cheese completely smooth before adding it to the casserole.
  • Make sure the foil is tightly sealed so the pasta cooks evenly.
  • Stir once halfway through baking to prevent any dry spots.
  • Watch closely while broiling since the cheese can brown quickly.

Storage & Reheating

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

This recipe reheats incredibly well, making it perfect for meal prep. Simply microwave individual portions until heated through, and it tastes just as creamy and delicious the next day.

Easy Variations

Want to switch things up? Here are a few ideas:

  • Add broccoli before baking for extra veggies.
  • Stir in spinach during the last few minutes of baking.
  • Use rotisserie chicken to make prep even faster.
  • Add diced jalapeños for a little heat.
  • Sprinkle parmesan on top before serving.

  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
